When I was little girl visiting my grandmother Emily in the mountains of Jamaica, I used to marvel at how country folk could look at a sky full of cloudless, sunshine and tell you rain was on the way. You could stand there trying to understand the hows and whys but you’d be drenched in a rainstorm long before you’d ever figured out an answer.

Here at Emily Jayne we have our own version, since we can basically tell you what the weather seems to be doing by looking at our orders. And judging from the surge on Curl Butter orders, it seems as if the rise in temps (and the saltwater, and the chlorine and the humidity etc. etc. etc.) has been putting a hurting on more than a few parched coils.

No wonder.

This super-moisturizing styling creme rehydrates thirsty coils and curls with a natural infusion of coconut, grapeseed and carrot oils attentively mixed with aloe, rosewater and shea butter. Perfect for wash-and-go styling, two-strand twists, twist-outs, blow-outs, loc moisturizing, color treated or relaxed hair and and all-over frizz-taming.

Apply confidently to dry or damp hair wherever moisture and sheen are needed.

ORDER TWO OR MORE JARS BETWEEN NOW AND JULY 31st AND THE SHIPPING IS ON US.

A Loving Shout-out on CurlyNikki!

A Loving Shout-out on CurlyNikki!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this shout-out from one of our Curl Butter original’s Nakaya on the CurlyNikki blog!

“My hair routine varies but here is what I generally do. I wash my hair approximately every five days, but in between washes, I usually refresh the curls by using a spray bottle of water, some aloe vera juice and some Hibiscus Curl and Styling Milk by Shea Moisture. Whenever possible, I also use Emily Jayne’s Curl Butter….this product is amazing for defining curls!”

You can find Emily Jayne Curl Butter at http://www.byemilyjayne.com/~shop/list/?prdPerPage=5&catId=37089.

Shop Small

Even before I launched Emily Jayne, “Small Business Saturday” was one of my fave events of the year. Love knowing that my money matters. So here’s a little love for some entrepreneurs I know whose business model is infused with a healthy dose of love. Cop stuff, like a page, or bookmark our sites for your holiday shopping.

1) Looking for more ways to support black indie film? Join Ava DuVernay and become an AFFRM REBEL today by pledging digital support to the African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement at http://www.affrmaction.com. No better gift for the film buff/aspiring filmmaker in your life. Copped 2 round midnight for me and the WonderTeen.

2) When publishers were giving her the run around, Dr. Yaba Blay decided to launch Black PRINT, her new publishing company. You can cop her book (1)ne Drop: Shifting the Lens on Race) at Amazon.

3) Pick up some new titles by some truly gifted writers: Rebecca Walker, Baye McNeil, Kiese Laymon, Kemba Mchawi and Mark Anthony Neal.

4) Designer Mimi Plange’s clothes are utterly divine. If you don’t believe me ask Michelle Obama.

5) Cop some of my favorite artisan candles at CC BlaQ & Co.and Chayil Candles, hand-poured by Nina Burke Hoy.

And you know I got you on the Body Luxe. Artisan Body Butter, Fragrance and Hair Care by me at http://www.byemilyjayne.com. There’s FREE SHIPPING today on orders for $25 or more.

#MADButtered

Homie she may very well be, but let’s face it, Michaela angela Davis‘ coif is nothing short of iconic, which means you wait a good, long, careful time before you give her your new Curl Butter to sample. Cuz after two decades of friendship we don’t do exactly do spare-the-ego-soothe-the-homegirl. So y’all know I was beyond excited to get these pics from her with rave reviews. Nothing like getting a prime spot in your beauty expert/image activist/diva darling’s primp regimen. So here she is:

Michaela Angela Davis. Beautiful and #MadButtered

Come check us out on Wednesday 10/30 at Ailey Studios in NYC where MAD and I will be “Dropping F-Bombs” and truth-telling on exactly what it means to be in our #FortiesFierceFeminist. 6pm. Moderated by Ebony.com’s Jamilah Lemieux.

40 Emily Jayne give-aways to the first 40 guests. Curl Butter goodness, Wench-y Body Butter naughtiness and CC BlaQ & Co. Coitus Candles available for purchase.Image

The Wench is Back…With Benefits

Feel that nip in the night air?  The season of the Wench is upon us.

You remember her, right?

Traditionally sweet ylang-ylang getting seriously, scandalously naughty. A deeply aromatic bouquet of flowers and the wee hour licentiousness of the French Quarter. Blood red fingernails of a madam in a 19th century brothel feeding her lovers wine and dark chocolates…The slight, knowing smile that formed your lips. THAT “Wench”.

Last year, her sexy debut made the pages of Ebony, Jet and Essence. She showed up and showed out in New York. Paris. Puerto Rico. London. Mozambique. Louisville. Philly. And  Jamaica, leaving a host of seductively scented and gloriously buttered bodies in her wake.

This year we’re celebrating her arrival with $5 SHIPPING on any order that includes her — body butter, gift sets or fragrance.

Welcome to your Wenchification.

Order now at http://www.byemilyjayne. com. Offer ends 10/31 midnight.
